We've been quiet on here for a bit, but behind the scenes at Wonderland, there's been activity aplenty over the past month or so.
The search for a building to house the Wonderland facility has narrowed to a very short list of finalists. The architects at BBCO have joined Board and Staff on all site visits, and they're ready to refit their innovative original concepts for the Wonderland facility to a different space. We've been talking with stakeholders in these properties and the attached neighborhoods. As part of our due diligence, there's more research and discussions ahead. We'll share information as it becomes available.
We've also had contact with the IRS about Wonderland's application for 501(c)3 tax exempt status. It's involved a process that's been lengthy, but which continues to move forward productively.
As the process of securing a facility continues, we aim to fulfill that mission through programming like Cinemusica. The October 15 event at the Arena Grand Theatre, which premiered newly commissioned short films by local filmmakers with live soundtracks by local musicians, was an all-around hit. Discussions are already underway for another Cinemusica in the spring. We'd like to thank the audience, also Cinemusica's filmmakers, musicians and sponsors, for their involvement and enthusiasm.
Coming in December are two programs that fit nicely with the holiday season. Skill Swap, happening December 5 at The Jury Room, works like a gift exchange. But instead of buying presents, participants will swap an hour of their respective areas of expertise. On December 14, Wonderland will present Shirt Show at Union Cafe, where guests can purchase one-of-a-kind, artist-created T-shirts as gifts - right off the models' backs - and participating artists can pocket some extra money for their holiday festivities. Check our calendar for more details.
